Skin Superfood: Soy

Soybeans are one of nature’s best-kept secrets to maintaining healthy, youthful skin. Many populations in Asia are known to maintain clearer and younger-looking skin than Western and Eastern European countries due to their high soy-based diet.

Soy is a smart moisturizer due to its innate ability to moisturize areas that are dry while decreasing oil on other areas of the skin. Soy hydrating proteins have high softening and smoothing effects while evening out skin tone and texture for a healthier-looking, more radiant skin.

Soy is a highly nutritious plant. It is a clean, pure source of protein rich in iron, manganese, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, zinc, potassium, copper, folic acid, vitamins, and omegas. As demonstrated in many Asian populations who live on a soy-based diet – consuming up to 300 milligrams of soy a day -, eating soy on a regular basis may boost immunity, strengthen bones, support healthy, younger-looking skin, and even potentially lower the risk of many widespread diseases. In our house, edamame (soy beans) are a staple, but you can also get started on the many tofu-based dishes or try soy milk. Preferably choose organic, GMO-free soy products.
